Surrender, Dorothy!

Filed under: Joan @ 8:15 am

Damn, I think Eric got it right again. I am restless. I’m reading a biography of Woodie Guthrie right now and Leadbelly’s description of The Blues nearly jumped off the page:

“The blues is like this. You lay down some night and you turn from one side of the bed to the other, all night long. It’s not too cold in that bed, and it ain’t too hot. But what’s the matter? The blues has got you and they want to talk with you.”

I’m at a crossroads and I don’t know which way to go. There is no scarecrow to point the way and no brave friends to accompany me once I make my decision. I have no idea which way to go to get to Oz. And I really, really, want to like down in a field of poppies. Trouble is, once I lie down I won’t be able to sleep!

  1. It seems that sometimes in our life, we come to these crossroads. They are not fun times, they are challenges to us. I wish I could give some great wisdom, but I have none. The only thing I can say is, “Never Give Up, Never Surrender!”

  2. I do know this (I think - hmm…maybe that means that I only suspect it :) - you can’t HAVE a God and BE a God. So if you have one, let Him make the big decisions.

  3. Fat,
I can certainly let go and let God … but what do I tell all those people (family included) who are breathing down my neck with “what’s next?” questions?!

  4. Anyone who appreciates Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie will be fine.

But consider this bit of good karma: back in High School, a friend of mine started a running club called . . . the Surrender Dorothy RC. Singlet had a crossed broomstick and oil-can in the upper left. Good karma begets good karma.

P.S. I feel flattered that you read my comments (. . . big grin on an otherwise busy day).
