Oblio and Arrow

Well, I’m back from my blogging mini-break … did anyone miss me?
Techie Dave has informed me that I now have 100 subscribers to Songs of Experience (affectionately nicknamed SoE) but sometimes I feel like Oblio (from Nilsson’s 1971 classic, The Point) when he sings “Hello? Is anybody else here?”

Life Line
by Harry Nilsson

Down to the bottom,
Hello
Is there anybody else here?

It’s cold and I’m so lonely,
Hello!
Is there anybody else here?

Hello (Hello, Hello, Hello)
Won’t you throw me down a Life Line?
I’m so afraid of darkness,
And down here it’s just like night time.

Oobelie, Ooobely, Oogolie, Oogolie,
Oohs..Are all around me.
Hello!
Will you please send down a Life Line?

Down,
And there isn’t any hope for me,
Unless this dream which seems so real,
Is just a fantasy.

We’re here. The silent. The attentive. The inspired. We don’t always speak, but it’s just that we’d rather not interrupt.

How’s he counting that hundred? I’m curious.

I mostly post for my own sanity; an outlet for thoughts that would otherwise do incessant laps in my head. But sometimes I look at the server logs and think, hey, the only people reading this are… computers. (Google, Yahoo, MSN, et al. and their crawlers.)

We’re here. I, for one, have not had much to say because you already seem to know it all. We’re just here to soak it up.

I love The Point. My father used to play the tapes on road trips when I was younger. Such a good story.

Are you serious, JOCKO? Your father?! What a blessed childhood you must have had. I am going to get a cd of The Point TODAY to play for my kids in the car. Thank your dad for the great idea.

Wow. I hadn’t thought of that movie for years. I actually saw it on a cable channel several years back and my kids couldn’t understand why I was so excited by it and those familiar songs by Nilsson. They just didn’t get ‘the point.’

This mention of “The Point” brought back warm memories. It’s timeless, you know. Now, how about a game of “triangle toss”? sli

SO HAPPY TO FIND THIS SITE. I saw this movie a very long time ago, as a child. My own children grew up hearing me tell this story (or a similar one)–about being different and accepted, as their bedtime stories. They loved it and always asked for me to *retell* it. I finally found the actually dvd on Amazon.com and just ordered it (I’m thrilled!). The songs particularly have stuck in my mind all these years. I can’t wait to actually share the movie with my children. THANKS!
